Sample Off-Season Beach Volleyball Workout
by Jon Mackey - Jan.15th, 2007
In my previous article, "It's Time to hit the Weights" , I explained that I would offer a sample off-season beach volleyball workout. The following sample workout, as an aspiring AVP pro, has been somewhat modified and supplied to me by EATS. If you are unsure about certain exercises ask your local personal trainer to demonstrate them for you.
It's Time to Hit the Weights
by Jon Mackey- Dec. 16th, 2006
It is now the off-season for professional and amateur beach volleyball players alike. It is these cold months that we put away our board-shorts and sun block and rest those battered shoulders and knees. It is during the winter months when most amateur athletes and weekend warriors slow down, pick up the remote and tack on a few extra pounds. For most out there that is certainly reasonable and in some cases, probably beneficial but the off-season can also be a time to develop an intense, sport-specific, strength and flexibility program that can jump-start you physically as well as mentally for the next season. A strength training program can not only add the few inches of vertical to those trying to make the ranks of the elite in the AVP but it can also help prevent those weekend warriors from limping into the office on Monday morning.
